Quilting by Improvisation

Exploring Curves, Openwork and Dimension by Vikki Pignatelli

book image DragonThreads 2006

This book is from 2006, but it's still available and is one of the best art-quilting technique books (my opinion). All I needed to do was look at this quilt from Vikki's book and I said, "I want to know how to do that."

The quilt is made up of 9 oval blocks, no pattern, just how to!

The techniques in this book are the ones I used as project #2 for my teen grand-daughters, and it remains one of my favorite creative ways to express my ideas. I especially like doing trees.

Vikkie techniques really are "stress free" and very adaptable. Her method of finishing with faced binding makes the irregular shapes possible and the way she adds texture with open spaces without the quilts is priceless.

I highly recommend Quilting by Improvisation for your library.

I have been playing with Texture Magic, the new product from Superior Threads, for a while. I can think of endless possibilities and once you see it, I'm sure you'll agree.
